Diablo 2 Remastered - Kurast Docks

See the breakdown here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3oyerJ
In March 2019 I joined the Environment Bootcamp at Vertex School ( Game Art Institute ). My goal was to level up my skills, make a strong portfolio and start looking for a job in the industry. This was my first environment project and I am happy to finally post it. There is a lot of stuff here and I'm sorry if I leave something out. I modeled and textured everything in the scene except the water from the Epic Marketplace. I put a little breakdown project as well, you can see it here :
I am a big fan of the Diablo franchise and since there is a lot of talk within the community about remastered games, I decided to make my own version. I wish I could have made the whole level but it will have to wait for another time.
A big thank you to my mentors Ryan Kingslien and Henry Kelly, as well as to all the guys from the boot camp. I couldn't have done this without their help and guidance.

It wasn't hard to get references. I would simply play some d2 and got some screenshots :)

Diablo 2 - Kurast Docks / Unreal Engine

The temple was the first thing i modeled. I thought I would just make the temple and move on to another project, but this turned out to be something much more.

Modeling the elements. This was my first encounter with zbrush. Never used it before and got the hang of it really fast.

One of my first sculpts for the temple walls.

Using this pack of materials i was able to create all the floors and walls seamless. The floors were aditionaly vertex painted to mix with the ground.

My first attempt with trees. They got too expensive so i had to cut down on the polys.

Started to put the level together and set dressing. A lot of set dressing! :) At this point i didn't have fog in my scene and very little lighting. This will be very important later on.

It took me a lot of time to get the lighting and the ambience together. I went trough many variatons. Fog position and lighting setup was the most important thing that enabled me to get where i wanted to.
